Description

Alternative Organizational Models: A Deeper Dive
Wednesday, March 29 | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM | Part 2 of 2-Part Optional Interactive Web Series (attend just one or both sessions!)

Presented by: Susan Loucks, Principal, Susan Loucks Consulting

Offered in Partnership with: Susan Loucks Consulting

“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” – James Clear, Atomic Habits

This session will build on concepts discussed on March 15 during Re-Envisioning Organizational Models, especially how nonprofits are building structures based on distributed power and worker-ownership. You do not need to have attended Re-Envisioning Organizational Models in order to participate in this conversation, where we’ll explore ways that decisions can be made in worker self-directed organizations – how they can be made in a group, and/or how they can be made by individuals in roles across the organization. Led by nonprofit consultant Susan Loucks, we’ll learn the distinction between different types of decision making – consent, consensus, and advice processes. And you’ll leave with ideas you can start experimenting with in your organizations, regardless of your commitment to worker self-direction.

Each session in this two-part series can be viewed independently of one another. Missed part one? Here’s what we covered! Default organizational forms are influenced by systems (corporations, military, scarcity-based economics) that so often are the cause of the problems we seek to solve. But not all hope is lost – there are alternatives! Join PANO and nonprofit consultant Susan Loucks to learn more about some very different ways nonprofits are shaping their organizations, including distributing decision-making and re-imagining governance, and how these examples might provide sustaining answers for our leadership pipelines and our missions. If you're experiencing leadership transition, worried about a retiring executive, or are simply ready to try something new in 2023, this session just might be for you!

Let’s think outside the (organizational structure) box this year!

NOTE: In order to promote open dialogue, honest discussion, and less inhibited sharing, a copy of the recording will only be distributed to those who attend the live conversation. If you cannot make it this time around, please email Christina Spadaro at christina@pano.org to be notified of future opportunities to attend this or a similar workshop.
