A Convening of Pennsylvania Nonprofits and Elected Officials Who Support Us
Tuesday, October 10 | 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM | Virtual Advocacy Panels & Discussions

Offered in Partnership by: The Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO) | The Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership (GPNP) | United Way of Pennsylvania (UWP)

The Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), the Greater Pittsburgh Nonprofit Partnership (GPNP), and United Way of Pennsylvania (UWP) present this series of virtual panels, where 12 state legislators and organizations working to enhance Pennsylvania communities will come together to discuss how to “do good” better.

This FREE half-day program will bring together nonprofits with members of Pennsylvania’s Charitable Nonprofit Caucus and members of the PA general assembly passionate about creating a strong nonprofit community. Throughout the morning, we will host conversations specific to the recently reignited Pennsylvania Charitable Nonprofit Caucus and workforce development - including the mental health, childcare, and broadband needs of nonprofit staff and those they serve.

Stick around for an educational session about Pennsylvania’s state budget process – making what can be confusing, clearer and more transparent.

Registration includes the opportunity to submit questions ahead of time (and we highly recommend doing so!).

If you've been thinking about engaging with your elected officials, if you've been waiting for the right moment to get your nopnrofit civically engaged, if you're already actively advocating on behalf of your org and you've got questions...here's your chance! Join us on 10/10!

AGENDA:

8:30 AM-9:45 AM – Introducing Pennsylvania’s Charitable Nonprofit Caucus

On June 21, 2023, four fearless leaders in the General Assembly reignited the bipartisan, bicameral Pennsylvania’s Charitable Nonprofit Caucus. Come to this session to meet all four caucus chairs and learn more about other members of the caucus and their collective passion for nonprofit work. Find out how to bring your legislative/administrative issues to their attention and the various opportunities for engagement with the caucus (e.g., hearings, testimony).

10:00 AM-11:30 AM – Pennsylvania Nonprofit Workforce Development Panels (attendees will choose one of these concurrent sessions to attend)

  • Nonprofit Workforce Development Panel - Including Challenges Related to Limited Childcare

Nonprofits collectively employ 15% of the workforce – something that may not continue if systemic issues are not addressed, and nonprofits continue to lag behind the business community in their recruitment and retention efforts. Panelists, including both elected officials and nonprofits conveners, will discuss issues that contribute to these ongoing challenges, with a focus on how limited access to affordable childcare, along with reimbursement rates from the state that have not kept up with inflation. The discussion will include possible legislative solutions and the best ways for nonprofits to engage with their elected representatives.

Members of the house and senate labor committees joining us for this discussion include: House Labor & Industry Chairman Dawkins, Senator Dillon, Representative Donahue, and Representative Ecker.

  • Nonprofit Workforce Development Panel - Including Challenges Related to the Mental Health Needs of Our Employees

11:45 AM-12:30 PM – Understanding the Commonwealth’s Budget: Process, Policy, and Impact

Pennsylvania's budget process can seem murky and convoluted – making it difficult for nonprofit leaders to navigate and unsure of when to weigh in for best results. This session, led by Phil Falvo, Public Policy Director of United Way of Pennsylvania, offers a peek behind the curtain of how the Commonwealth's budget works and an opportunity to better understand when to bring budget requests to your elected officials.
