Description

UPMC’s Pathways to Work: Community Partnership & Life-Changing Careers

Tuesday, December 5 | 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM | FREE Webinar

Presented by: Dan LaVallee, Senior Director, UPMC Center for Social Impact at UPMC Health Plan

Offered in Partnership with: UPMC Central PA and UPMC Health Plan, Proud Premier Sponsor of the 2023 Collaborative Conference

UPMC Health Plan understands that well-being isn’t just about what happens in a doctor’s office. There are many factors, including stable employment and career satisfaction, that increase an individual’s ability to access medical care, ultimately contributing toward a better quality of life. That’s why, as the largest non-governmental employer in Pennsylvania, UPMC and UPMC Health Plan are committed to creating opportunities for workforce development and fulfilling employment.

As a system, UPMC has thousands of job openings available at any given time, and the UPMC Health Plan Pathways to Work program aims to support members and individuals in the communities we serve with personalized support to better access job training and navigate the hiring process. We seek individuals with barriers to work, in particular, and partner with community organizations to do so.

This workshop is being offered free of charge by our friends at UPMC Central PA and UPMC Health Plan, Premier Sponsor of the 2023 Collaborative Conference. You do not need to have attended the conference in order to attend this workshop, but we invite you to learn more about Landing the Plane (Without Wrecking It) here.

About the Facilitator:

Dan LaVallee, Senior Director, UPMC Center for Social Impact at UPMC Health Plan

Dan LaVallee is the senior director of UPMC’s Center for Social Impact and leads its program development team with a multi-million-dollar budget of scalable community-based organization partnerships. The Center’s goal is to help UPMC Health Plan members – and communities as a whole – find jobs, housing, and other social supports. As a part of Social Impact, he leads UPMC Health Plan’s Pathways to Work program that helps to hire over 200 individuals off Medicaid per month. Dan recently led the development of UPMC Health Plan’s first Neighborhood Center aimed at providing workforce development, as well as health, wellness and social service supports in an 8,000 sq. foot space in the East End of Pittsburgh.

Before joining UPMC Health Plan, Dan ran for Congress (2014)—becoming one of the youngest people in recent decades to do so. Dan serves on the boards of directors for United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, the United Way of Pennsylvania, Partner4Work, YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, Boys & Girls Club of Western PA and Imani Christian Academy. He was recently appointed by Gov. Josh Shapiro to the Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board and was previously appointed by Gov. Tom Wolf to the Slippery Rock University Council of Trustees in 2020. Dan was named to Pittsburgh Magazine’s 40 under 40, Managed Healthcare Executive’s “10 Emerging Leaders” and won Achieva’s Excellence in Community Leadership Award in 2022. He received his B.S. in Public Policy & Management and M.S. in Health Care Policy & Management from Carnegie Mellon University. He lives in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife and daughters.

About the 2023 Collaborative Conference:

We did it! For the first time since 2019, we learned together, laughed together, dined together, and probably whined together, too (hey, a little venting among friends is healthy!) – in person AND online at the 2023 Collaborative Conference.

With our theme of Landing the Plane (Without Wrecking It), we took an honest look at where we’ve all been these last few years, where we’re going, and how to get there as safely as possible…or at least not completely crash and burn along the way! Check out more about this year’s keynotes, workshops, and other activities at www.collaborativeconference.org and learn about this year’s sponsors here – including companies like UPMC Central PA and UPMC Health Plan, who have products, services, and tools available to facilitate a smooth landing for all the planes your organization has in the air.
