Do your fundraising practices strengthen your relationships with your donors and also keep you compliant with the law? Building strong donor relationships and growing a strong organization requires more than securing a gift. It requires thoughtful stewardship, clear communication and strict compliance with legal and ethical rules.

This webinar will cover charitable giving from soliciting the gift, through disposing of gift property, and handling an endowment in perpetuity.

Nonprofit attorney Don Kramer, joined by seasoned fundraising consultant Perry Monastero, will discuss the following questions and more:

  • How do we tell a prospective donor we don’t really want his world-class collection of beer bottle caps?
  • What should be included in an effective gift acceptance policy?
  • When do you need a specific gift agreement, and what should be included?
  • What do you do about naming rights when the donor turns out to be a criminal? Or the building needs a total rehab?
  • What happens when a gift to support the chess team is useless because you dissolved the chess team?
  • How should you acknowledge gifts and recognize donors?
  • How do you get rid of stuff that has outlived its usefulness?
  • Who has a right to enforce a gift agreement?
  • How much can you withdraw from your endowment each year?
  • Should your organization handle gift annuities or charitable trusts?
  • How do you keep a donor engaged between gifts?

*Earning Credits:

  • CFRE  Registered individuals who pay the CFRE ticket fee and participate fully in Charitable Giving: Enhancing Relationships and Ensuring Compliance are eligible for 2.0 points in Category 1.B - Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification. Participation in this program may assist you in learning or reviewing concepts covered on the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) examination as detailed on the Test Content Outline provided by CFRE International. CFRE International does not sponsor or endorse any educational programs and Charitable Giving: Enhancing Relationships and Ensuring Compliance was not developed in conjunction with CFRE International. Ticket pricing for those interested in CFRE credits can be found below.

Group Ticket Cost (4-10 individuals):
$150 per group for PANO Members | $333 per group for Not-Yet Members

Terms of Participation
If you have 4-10 individuals interested in viewing the webinar, please have one person register selecting the group ticket. You can then enter the names and email addresses of up to 10 individuals to add to your group ticket. Each person registered will receive their own unique login instructions and may join from wherever is most convenient for them.

For more than 10 attendees, please email Christina at christina@pano.org to discuss options. If interested in obtaining the CFRE credits through PANO, please register all interested individuals for single login CFRE tickets rather than a group ticket.

Materials & Login Instructions:
Materials (PowerPoint and other handouts), along with login instructions, will be emailed to attendees 24 hours before the webinar. PANO uses Zoom as our webinar platform; you can familiarize yourself with Zoom and/or join a test meeting prior to these sessions.

Can’t attend? All registrants will receive a recording of the webinar following the live session!
