Café PANO – Burnout in the Nonprofit Sector: Understanding It, Talking About It, Tackling It Calling all PANO Members to build connection! This month we invited Kate Scherr- Adams, Owner and Principal consultant, KS Solutions Consulting to discuss wellbeing in the workplace. Mission-driven work is deeply rewarding and deeply demanding. Let's talk honestly about burnout, what fuels it, how it shows up, and how it affects people, teams, and missions. We'll share insights, experiences, and practical ideas for creating more sustainable ways of working. Got a topic in mind for a future gathering? Kate Scherr-Adams is guided by the words of jazz pianist and composer Eubie Blake who said, “Be grateful for luck. Pay the thunder no mind—listen to the birds. Don’t hate nobody.” This philosophy reflects her approach to both life and work. An active community volunteer, Kate leads a weekly life skills club for middle school students. As a nature lover and trained hike leader, she enjoys exploring the outdoors. Kate is the founder of KS Solutions Consulting, focused on people, planning and progress, where she helps nonprofits and public organizations strengthen leadership, navigate change, and build healthier workplaces. With more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit and government sectors, including 15 years as a consultant, she has partnered with more than 150 organizations on strategic planning, team development, board and volunteer engagement, workplace wellness, strategy and succession planning and coaching and professional development. Kate holds degrees in Social Work (BA) and Nonprofit Management (MA), is trained in the Standards for Excellence, and teaches a graduate course on organizational strategy development.
