REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, June 24, 3:00 PM

Nonprofits collect a surprising amount of sensitive data — donor financial information, volunteer background checks, client intake forms, health records, and more — yet most operate without a clear privacy strategy or data governance plan. This presentation cuts through the legal jargon to give nonprofit leaders a practical understanding of what data privacy laws actually apply to their organizations, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), state breach notification requirements, and the growing patchwork of state-level, federal, and international consumer privacy statutes. We'll examine the most common data collection mistakes nonprofits make, why the "we're just a small charity" mindset creates real legal exposure, and what a baseline-compliant data, privacy, and security program actually looks like for organizations with limited staff and budget.  Attendees will walk away with a baseline framework for understanding what data their organization collects, how it's stored, who has access to it, and when it must be deleted or secured.

*PLEASE NOTE:

  • This is an informational session, and no legal advice will be given to attendees. Attendees seeking legal advice should engage legal counsel. Attendees’ attendance does not establish an attorney-client relationship with the presenters or their law firm, even if attendees ask questions and receive responses from the presenters.
  • This session will be recorded. A link to the recording will be shared with all registrants and may also be shared with others who inquire about this content after the live session has ended. Attendees will be able to ask questions anonymously during the webinar via Zoom’s Q&A feature. Any questions shared with PANO staff and the presenters, either in advance during the registration process or during the live webinar, will be kept confidential.
